Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming five GCSE students and one A-Level student to Plessey for Work Experience Week. During their time with us, they became immersed in life at Plessey—learning about our business operations, cutting-edge technology, and the culture that drives our innovation.
The GCSE students gained an overview of Plessey through a series of hands-on sessions led by engineers from across the business, who brought their roles to life, offering insights into the processes behind our R&D. They also had the opportunity to don full cleanroom attire and tour our state-of-the-art Fab, enabling them to witness first-hand where we develop our technology.
The A-level student expressed an interest in accounting and spent the week shadowing our busy finance team, learning about the various roles available, as well as the different systems and processes used on a day-to-day basis.
We also focused on helping the students become work-ready, with sessions on confident communication, CV writing, and interview skills. They each had the chance to connect with our current graduates and apprentices, gaining valuable insights into career pathways and the choices that shaped their journeys.
Mark Gray, Plessey’s Learning and Development Manager, commented on the positive experience the week provided for both the students and Plessey:
“Their curiosity, fresh thinking, and enthusiasm brought an energy to the workplace as they explored the fascinating world of microLED technology. At the heart of this experience is a simple belief: investing in future talent benefits everyone. We’re proud to support the next generation of engineers and innovators—and excited to see where their journeys take them.”
We look forward to welcoming more students to Plessey next year. Work experience applications will open on our Early Careers hub later this year.
