Graduate Opportunities

Plessey offers a graduate scheme to develop talented engineers for the future. The scheme gives the chance for skilled individuals to learn in a fast-paced practical environment, applying the skills you have learned during your degree.

You are supported by a network of skilled and experienced people who will help your growth and strengthen your work. They will provide support through any challenges you encounter, give advice, and prepare you for a career at Plessey.

As we grow, we are bringing in graduate engineers to strengthen our advanced engineering teams.

Graduate applications are now closed.

Process Development Engineer

You are responsible for the monitoring and improvement of a section of the LED manufacturing process. Your training would cover the areas of Photolithography, Films and Etch with you specialising in one of these areas upon completion. You will develop superior capabilities to deliver the required results.

MOCVD Growth Engineer

You would be working on material structure changes to influence the film performance. The MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition) team start with quantum theory and then carry out experiments to confirm/tune in any needed changes.

Our customers’ needs drive our technology development; they interface with our product engineers and they then specify the needs to your team. As well as moving capability on existing systems forward, you will be involved in the specifying and starting up of new high value systems.

Coring Engineer

You will provide the engineering support needed for our wafer coring process. You will work closely with other coring process engineers to become part of the team, providing support and input. You will work on data collection on experiments, creating and updating procedures and documents, and provide analysis of issues on the production line. You will maintain control charts and create descriptions of any issues to be resolved.

Systems Development Engineer

You will join a team of engineers developing the systems necessary to utilise our products. You will design and build prototype circuits for the microLED products operation and interface. You will manufacture both prototype and demonstrator circuit boards displaying sound electronic skills with a willingness to learn other skills such as producing 3D CAD drawings and 3D print.

Structure of graduate programme

Our graduate programme is two years long, rotating through the company. You get the opportunity to work within different departments to gain a full understanding of how the company fits together and how each team works.

Each graduate is assigned a mentor, who provides a single point of contact throughout your journey. They are outside of your main department, allowing you to have an independent person to turn to for advice or assistance.

Graduates are fully trained in the knowledge and skills required for their roles, including training for each department they work with during their rotation. This training includes Six Sigma Green Belt certification, and the training required to carry out a solo project in the department.

Entry Requirements

A First or 2:1 degree in a relevant subject, such as:

  • Electronics Engineering
  • Metallurgical/ Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
