Keith Strickland
CEO
Keith has over 29 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry, starting with GEC-Plessey Semiconductors in 1995, and has held various senior engineering, management and executive roles. Keith now leads Plessey Semiconductors during a period of unprecedented investment and growth, having been key to the pivoting of the company to compound semiconductors and the development of novel MicroLED display technology, culminating in securing a strategic partner in 2020.
Keith holds a B.Sc. Honours degree in Physics and Electronics (1987), M.Sc. degree in Semiconductor Devices (1988) and a Ph.D. in Solid State Physics (1992). Keith has written numerous publications, presented papers at national and international conferences over many years, holds a number of patents in the field of semiconductor design and optoelectronics and sits on several steering group panels for major university-funded science programmes in the UK.
Iain Silvester
CFO
Iain joined Plessey twelve years ago as CFO, responsible for financing and corporate restructuring, as well as shareholder and investor management. He leads the finance team, which focuses on internal management accounting and external statutory and corporate accounting and reporting.
Iain has thirty years’ experience in private and public growth stage tech companies, and prior to Plessey, he was CFO of picoChip Inc. and Finance Director of Motion Media PLC, where he managed its IPO on the LSE in 2000.
Iain has a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young.
Susie Morcom
HR Director
Susie is an Associate member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) and obtained her Level 7 – Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management in 2014. She has been with Plessey for nearly 10 years, after spending 7 years in the Care Industry as an Office Manager/HR Advisor and 8 years in Recruitment.
In 2020, she played a key role in implementing and communicating COVID-19 protocols for employees and vendors visiting the site. This, together with leading a significant recruitment drive, was instrumental in enabling the rapid setup of the advanced development line and the growth in employee skills and capabilities. Susie is passionate about employee health and wellbeing, is a trained Mental Health First Aider and Wellbeing Champion and continues to implement numerous initiatives to support and enhance the employee experience at Plessey.
Arwel Evans
Engineering & Partnerships Director
Arwel Evans is the Partnership Director at Plessey, where he excels in cultivating key relationships with strategic partners and driving operational and engineering excellence to enhance performance and customer satisfaction. With a strong background in business development, Arwel ensures that customer relationships are nurtured and strengthened, resulting in long-term partnerships and mutual growth.
Arwel has extensive experience managing critical partnerships across various industries and overseeing teams in product and project management, engineering, and quality. His responsibilities have included business operations, product management, and strategic development, where his insights and leadership have consistently driven growth and technological advancements.
Arwel holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Liverpool and an MBA from Imperial College London, combining strong technical expertise with robust business acumen.
Maria Norton
Programme & Purchasing Director
Maria is a qualified member of the APM Chartered Project Professional. She has been heavily involved in product development throughout her career, which has spanned twelve years in the tech industry, including eight within semiconductors. She has a key role in leveraging Plessey’s development expertise to meet high customer expectations.
Maria has a BSc in Business Studies from the University of Gloucestershire and more recently completed a Postgraduate degree in the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. A leader of both the Program Management and Planning / Procurement functions at Plessey, she strives to lead on-time delivery and value-creation opportunities.
Thomas Abbott
Engineering Director
Tom is the Engineering Director at Plessey, responsible for managing the engineering activity and teams in line with the organisational objectives. During his career, he has worked in a diverse range of engineering and operational roles, of which ten years have been in the semiconductor industry.
Tom is a keen agent for change. In recent years, he has successfully navigated several rapid operational transformations and multimillion-pound CAPEX programs. He has also been instrumental in delivering a world-class development service to Plessey’s partners.
Tom holds a BEng Hons degree in Engineering and is a keen contributor to both local and international industry associations. He has a passion for Operational and Engineering leadership.
Charlie Watt
Operations Director
Charlie has over 30 years’ experience in the semiconductor industry. He joined Plessey in 1992 following nine years of service in the Royal Navy. During his career with Plessey, he has worked in many different engineering and management positions and played an important role in the growth and innovation over the years.
As Operations Director, Charlie manages several key departments across the business, ensuring that Plessey’s high-technology facility runs safely and efficiently 24/7.
Charlie holds a BTEC HNC in Electronic Engineering, a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Silicon Processing and Manufacturing Techniques, and a CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership.
