Theory & Practical Experience

During an apprenticeship at Plessey, you will build a portfolio of evidence to support you during the assessment process and receive guidance from City College who will support you every step of the way, while working alongside Plessey’s knowledgeable and highly-skilled engineers.

Entry Requirements

The entry-level qualification requirements are two A levels at grade C, including maths and a science-based subject, or successful completion of an Extended Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering (either Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic).

Salary & Benefits

We recognise the need to reward progress throughout this four-year process, so after successful completion of the HNC element which takes two years at a salary of £16,600 annually, you will then be awarded a Technician grade and salary, followed by an Engineer grade and salary on apprenticeship completion.

Plessey offers a competitive salary plus additional employee benefits including private health insurance, pension scheme, life insurance, subsidised on-site gym, subsidised canteen and 28 days holiday plus paid bank holidays.

Rebecca McAllister

Apprentice Process Technician

“As a company, Plessey has been so supportive and helpful to ensure that I am always positively challenged. I feel so lucky to work for them, as the opportunities and apprenticeship route that they offer are astounding. They are just as passionate about apprenticeships as I am, and they have provided an opportunity to work alongside people in all aspects of the business. I feel as though this has given me a greater appreciation for communication between teams and integration of skills throughout.”

Jack Clench

Apprentice Engineering Technician

“When deciding on who to do my apprenticeship with and after a few interviews, in my opinion, Plessey had the most diversity and opportunities to excel. Plessey seemed to have so much going on that if I was to put in the effort I could go anywhere I wanted to within my career there, it also seemed so diverse that not one day would ever be the same. Through doing an apprenticeship I feel I have gained valuable experience which I can not only apply to my jobs within work and college but throughout my everyday life also.”
